Map Room at the Contemporary Art Gallery
with Landon Mackenzie

Saturday, June 9, 2012 from 12pm - 4pm
Contemporary Art Gallery, 555 Nelson Street, Vancouver BC
FREE

Artist and Educator Landon Mackenzie orchestrates Map Room; The Act and State of Drawing—an afternoon exploring drawing for visitors at the Contemporary Art Gallery. Rooted in her own practice and critical thinking, Mackenzie invites everyone to explore the many potentials of drawing and mapping as an act and state of being.

Held in conjunction with the current exhibition by LA-based Matthew Monahan, Mackenzie and the CAG team will provide opportunities and the materials needed to engage visitors in playful activities of drawing on site.

The Contemporary Art Gallery is the only free public art gallery in Vancouver dedicated exclusively to presenting contemporary art. Established in 1971, the CAG plays a key role in the cultural life of the city by promoting knowledge and understanding of contemporary visual art through exhibitions, publications, learning and outreach programs.

Landon Mackenzie has been a practicing artist for over thirty years. She is best known for her large-format mapping and abstract paintings, as well as "The Lost River Series" which won the 1981 Quebec Biennale of painting. Her work has been collected by the National Gallery of Canada, the Vancouver Art Gallery, the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and the Musee d ’art Contemporain de Montreal among many others. Mackenzie is a professor at the Emily Carr University of Art + Design in Vancouver.
